Policy Action

The Under2 Coalition’s Policy Action work helps to accelerate climate policy development.

We support the most ambitious state and regional governments around the world to develop and implement climate policies that are consistent with keeping global average temperature increase well below 2°C.

Explore our Under2 Policy Action Map browsing by region or category to see how states, regions, and cities in the Under2 Coalition are taking bold action on climate change.

The Under2 Policy Action Map is supported by Stiftung Mercator

Learning from one another accelerates policy adoption and improves implementation by raising awareness of what has and hasn’t worked around the world. It also builds strong inter-governmental relationships, which can lead to collaborative partnerships.

We make this happen by facilitating government-to-government peer learning and by connecting policymakers to essential information and resources.

Peer learning projects

Policy action projects are focused on peer learning which takes place through thematic ‘peer forums’ and ‘innovation labs’. These provide a platform for sharing experience, evaluating policy and developing partnerships between states, regions and cities in different parts of the world.

Our latest peer learning initiative is the Under2 Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Project which supports state and regional governments to increase the number of zero emission vehicles on their roads.

The previous peer learning initiative, the Energy Transition Platform, ran from 2015 – 2018 and supported governments from highly industrialized states and regions to innovate and learn from each other’s energy transition policies.

Past peer forums include the Energy Efficiency Finance Peer Forum, Electric Vehicle Policy Initiative, Adaptation Peer Forum and Clean Tech Innovation Peer Forum.

Re-Industrialise project

The Climate Group is a partner of Re-Industrialise, together with the Wuppertal Institute, Provadis Hochschule, University of Bologna and ENGIE. The programme, supported by EIT Climate KIC, works with public authorities, companies and entrepreneurs in European industrial regions to support the planning and development of their transition towards a low carbon economy, while also offering access to financing for projects with positive climate impacts.

We conduct targeted research on global state and regional climate action, innovative climate policy models and global best practices.
